have seen some opposition from those within the republican party. for example, congressman paul ryan, a man you know very well closely and you work with him. he says regarding the takers remark from the president's address, i understand the president will continue to use straw man arguments, affix views to your political adversaries. they do not have in order to try and win an argument by default. that's the reaction to the president saying people are not takers in this country. mccain said the president should have reached out in the speech saying this is the eight inauguration i have been to and always there's been a portion of the speech where the president says i reach out my hand because we need to work together. that wasn't in this speech. so from immigration to the rights of those who are gay in our communities and in our neighborhood, in this country, to the other issues, as far as income inequality that the president said need to be addressed, how do you get this done? >> well, tamron, i must have heard a different speech than senator mccain and paul ryan. i thought the preside

illegal without any exceptions lookin' at you paul ryan. no surprise then that when asked if they would like the supreme court to completely overturn roe v. wade, majorities in three polls say no way. less than a quarter want roe overturned in the nbc "wall street journal" poll. 70% say no. less than a third in a recent pew poll want roe removed. 63% say no. the most recent gallup show show similar numbers with 18% saying they have no opinion on the issue. thanks for participating in democracy, guys. but the good news, ruth bader ginsburg can finally pick out the retirement villa. while the national numbers show abortion rights with solid support, conservative state governments are moving the other way. according to the guttmacher institute which follows the trends 19 states last year passed a total of 43 provisions aimed at restricts access to abortion including laws that impose mandatory unnecessary ultrasound procedures on women seeking abortions including the invasive transvaginal procedure. laws providing abortion providers make fetal heart beats audible prior to procedures.

republican budget chairman paul ryan told members they need to be prepared for a debt ceiling increase. the attitudes from republican leaders are a lot different today. senator jon cornyn of texas wrote an op-ed said it may be necessary to partially shut down the government in order to secure the long-term fiscal well-being of the country. now cornyn tells the chronicle editorial board we will raise the debt ceiling. we are not going to default on our ded debt. two years ago, they were gloating over their debt ceiling hostage strategy. >> no president in the near future, maybe in the distant future, will be able to get the debt ceiling increased without a reignition, reigniting of the same discussion of how do we cut spending and get america headed in the right direction. i expect the next president, whoever that is, will be asking us to raise the debt ceiling again in 2013. we'll be doing it all over. >> today, mitch mcconnell doesn't sound so tough. instead of demanding spending cuts on entitlement reform, here is his new demand. the american people expect the senate to finally pass a bud
